2010 AFL Grand Final Preview

September 23rd, 2010

AFL fans are in seventh heaven at this point in the season as the AFL Grand Final is just two days away. The final two teams were named in stunning fashion with the results of a fantastically played week 3. Now, the Collingwood Magpies will be taking on the St Kilda Saints in what should be a thrilling AFL Grand Final this Saturday, September 25 at the MCG.

The Collingwood Magpies will be going into this match as the clear favourites. It’s no wonder after they stomped on the reigning champion Geelong Cats last week, handing them a 120-79 loss. It seems the week’s rest has done them well and they are showing no signs of slowing down. Plenty of punters are backing this team for a win, but there are a couple of things to consider before placing your bets.

There are still a few questions surrounding key player Luke Ball. He suffered a hamstring injury in the massive win over Geelong in Finals week 3, which has jeopardised his position in the upcoming AFL Grand Final. While it will be good for the team if he does play, Ball will not be at 100%. The team will need to make up for any slack. Plus, he’ll be under plenty of pressure, as he will be facing his former teammates in this AFL Grand Final match. Keep in mind that Ball didn’t part with the Saints on the best of terms. For the team’s sake he can’t crumble under the pressure.

Another key factor will be the performance of Nick Maxwell. The defender is a major player in Collingwood’s back line. If St Kilda is able to shut him down, they’ll go a long way in facilitating scoring opportunities.

Speaking of the Saints, they’re going into this game as the underdogs, but they’re capable of pulling off the upset. They too conquered the Geelong Cats in week 1 of the AFL Finals, but struggled a bit in their week 3 matchup against the Western Bulldogs. They were caught off guard by the Dogs who went up by a goal going into the half. Though, thanks to a stunning third quarter performance, the Saints were able to score seven goals to take the 88-64 win.

The ‘Pies will be a much tougher test for the underdog Saints, making any mistakes all the more costly. Skipper Nick Reiwoldt will be a key factor in gaining a win. He will need to lead by example in this one. If the captain can inspire the team to play a full game of physical footy, the Saints will remain in contention.

Expect a close one between these two talented squads, but the ‘Pies should be able to edge out the win. Be sure to get to Ladbrokes.com.au to place all of your AFL Grand Final bets. They are offering a massive list of exotics along with the following standard bets:
