2010 AFL Grand Finals Replay Results

October 5th, 2010

The 2010 AFL Grand Finals replay is done and dusted, and finally a champion has been named. In a tremendous return to form, the Collingwood Magpies slaughtered the St Kilda Saints to take the 108-52 win.

It wasn’t quite the down-to-the-wire battle of its predecessor, but fans and punters who backed the favoured Magpies certainly the impressive performance. Collingwood showed a determination that was certainly missing from their performance a week ago. Every aspect of their game was right on, including aggressive tackling, smothering pressure, and a fantastic all over team effort. The St Kilda Saints never really had a chance as the ‘Pies grabbed the lead early on and never let it go.

Nathan Brown returned for Collingwood and did a superb job of shutting down key Saints’ inspirer Nick Reiwoldt. In fact, Brown smothered every play-making attempt and held the St Kilda skipper to zero goals. Luke Ball was also instrumental in Collingwood’s success as he did a fantastic job of covering Lenny Hayes.

Other notable performances came from Scott Pendlebury (29 disposals, 11 tackles), Heath Shaw (28 disposals), Dale Thomas (27 disposals), and Dane Swan (26 disposals).

While the Saints were thoroughly outplayed, the team did have some shinning moments. The match saw impressive performances from Brendon Goddard (29 possessions), James Gwilt, and Nick Dal Santo (29 disposals each). Though, it just wasn’t enough as many of the Saints suffered a lack of heart.

So, another year of AFL has wrapped up with the Collingwood Magpies being named the 2010 AFL Grand Final champions.
